Turn 18 years of hospital work into one number
You run the case. Read the prompt, answer questions from the notes below, and share data only when the candidate asks for it or gets stuck. Score at the end.

1. Read the prompt aloud
Read it slowly, then pause. Let the candidate ask questions before they structure.
Fictional and illustrative. You ran outpatient clinics at a hospital in the United Arab Emirates for 18 years. You redesigned booking, and the average wait fell from 40 minutes to 28. You want an expert role in healthcare operations. How do you say it?
2. Answers to clarifying questions
This case has no scripted clarifying answers. Answer from the prompt, and say "assume what you think is reasonable" if the prompt does not cover it.
3. A model structure
Compare the candidate's structure with this one. A different split can be just as good if it is clean and fits the problem.
- Impact = the change in the measure / its starting value
- Starting wait: 40 minutes
- New wait: 28 minutes
4. The working, step by step
Each step shows how a strong candidate works it out. Share a new fact from it only when the candidate asks or is stuck, and let them do the math: the result in the dark box is what they should reach.
Step 1: Minutes saved per visit
What a strong candidate does: Old wait minus new wait.
Minutes saved per visit: 40 - 28 = 12
Step 2: The fall as a percentage
What a strong candidate does: Minutes saved over the starting wait.
Fall in waiting time (percent): (40 - 28) ÷ 40 × 100 = 30
The recommendation to listen for
At the end, say: "The CEO walks in. What is your recommendation?"
Say: "I cut clinic waiting times by 30 percent, from 40 to 28 minutes, by redesigning booking." One sentence, one number, one cause. Then explain how the same approach would help a client.
Risks a strong answer names: A claim without a starting number is hard to believe.
Next steps: Write three results like this one; Practise saying each in under 20 seconds.
Score the candidate
Score each criterion from 1 to 5. A 2 or a 4 sits between the descriptions.
This case has no exhibit. Score Exhibit reading on how the candidate used the data you gave them: did they pick out the number that matters and say what it means?
