What does Re-enrolment rate mean?

The re-enrolment rate is the number of students who return the next year divided by the number eligible to return, leaving out those in their final year. It is the school sector's version of retention, the opposite of churn. Example: 1,000 students are eligible to return and 920 do, a re-enrolment rate of 92 percent, so the school must recruit 80 new students just to replace them, on top of replacing the graduating class. Recruiting a new family usually costs far more than keeping one, so a few points of re-enrolment matter a lot to profit.
